Links with form
Twas' in the Moon of Wintertime and I love my love both have links between form. Both pieces have stanzas that all end with a refrain: in I love my love, "I love my love because i know my love loves me!", and in Twas' in the moon of Wintertime, "Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born, In excelsis gloria." For both pieces each stanza has the same melody and structure as all the other stanzas, but dynamics and tempo with both vary. In I love my love the tempo and dynamics are closely related to the text, so depending the the lyrics tale and mood the dynamics and tempo will change (text painting).
In Twas' in the Moon of Wintertime text painting is not used. The men start out the first verse creating a darker, and then the women take over the next verse, and so on creating a call and response pattern. While one group is singing, the other is using soft background harmonies. The piece is quite short and ends with a glorified mood to try to create the image of moonlight shining through the dark winter because of Jesus's birth.
